Rabies: One Health, Zero Deaths

The Society for Animal Rights Protection marked this year’s World Rabies Day with media advocacy through sponsorship of radio news commentary focusing on this year’s global theme. The Commentary codenamed Heart of the Matter was broadcast on Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Premier 93.5fm three times on September 28, 2022.

In addition, a radio interview on the subject of the global theme was discussed on another program tagged focal point on the same station where the aetiology, mode of transmission, management, prevention and control of rabies in humans and animals was thoroughly discussed by the duo of the President and Treasurer of SARP, Dr. Ibikunle Faramade and Dr Taiwo Adebiyi respectively.

We are hopeful that in few days from now, the campaign against Rabies would be taken to secondary schools. We are also hopeful of organizing free Antirabies vaccination campaign by vaccination of dogs in some rural communities in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

SARP is open to collaboration with interested organizations to achieve Zero Deaths due to rabies by the year 2030, thereby fulfilling one of the targets of goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals

Thank you.

Dr. Ibikunle Abimbade FARAMADE

President, SARP
